MorePaws Launches Campaign to Tackle Loneliness and Improve Safety

As the clocks go back and darker evenings set in, a UK dog-walking community is encouraging owners to come together through a nationwide campaign designed to tackle loneliness and help people feel safer when walking their dogs.

MorePaws, a community founded by Ry Webster and his mum Diane, is organising 'No Need To Walk Alone', with over 20 group walks planned across the UK for anyone to join on Sunday 25th October at 6pm.

The campaign aims to bring local dog owners together, particularly those who feel uncomfortable walking alone after dark or would welcome more opportunities to build friendships and support networks in their area.

Ry and Diane established MorePaws after recognising how difficult it can be for dog owners to turn familiar faces at the park into genuine connections. The community has since grown to more than 6,000 dog owners, helping people expand their social circles while giving their dogs opportunities to socialise, too.

“Dog ownership can feel quite isolating at times, and, during winter, evening walks can also feel a lot less comfortable,” Ry explained. “From the start, our aim has always been the same: to help dog owners meet people nearby, build stronger local communities and create a support network they can trust.”

The initiative will also involve charities and rescue organisations to help raise awareness of the issues surrounding personal safety, loneliness and social isolation.

Dog owners, businesses, charities and other organisations are encouraged to get involved by joining an existing walk or organising one in their local area. MorePaws has created customisable posters to help people promote their own events.

The organisers hope the campaign will have a lasting impact beyond the day itself, encouraging participants to continue walking together throughout autumn and winter and helping to establish a stronger sense of community among dog owners.
